Residents demand action on CCTV

An open air meeting of the Bordesley and Highgate Residents Forum was held on Saturday 16 April. It was addressed by residents and Workers Party activists.

The meeting heard that more than 70% of residents in Highgate House and Charlbury Tower had now signed a petition demanding the council reinstate CCTV in the blocks to tackle anti-social behaviour. The CCTV was taken out of the blocks by the council as a “cost saving measure” despite thousands of other cameras being installed across the city centre as part of the Labour Council’s Clean Air Zone tax system.

After meeting with neighbouring Balsall Heath West councillor Zhor Malik, activist Elissaios was able to report that Zhor, if re-elected, will present the petition of residents to the next full Council meeting in May.
